A Charmer

Everyone is familiar with Charles Dickens and his "A Christmas Carol". That's the one where Scrooge turns his life around after being visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. That story was written in 1843 and has continued to be loved around the world.

Dickens' father was incarcerated in the poor house and Dickens himself was forced to work in horrible factory conditions at a very young age. Those two events colored his life and writing. Now we have author Samantha Silva wondering just how did Dickens come up with the various elements in his most famous novel.

Don't miss out on this most entertaining book. Author Anthony Doerr says it best: a "...charming, comic, and ultimately poignant story...It's foggy and haunted and redemptive as the original; it's all heart". Dickens himself is the main character, full of self-doubt as the festive season unfolds. He's not even started the Christmas book he's been contracted to write. The deadline looms but instead of writing he haunts the nighttime streets of London meeting the mysterious Eleanor Lovejoy. Go on this intriguing journey with Dickens as he meets his own trials and finally writes his most beloved book.

"Mr. Dickens and His Carol" is the December selection for our Book-A-Month Challenge. Get in the holiday spirit and check out this!
