Wondering what books patrons and staff are talking about? Here are some ideas.
The audio version of "In Pieces" by Sally Field is exceptionally good. Can you believe the Flying Nun is 72 years old? If you want Burt Reynolds gossip you won't find any but you will find an intimate portrait of one of our most beloved stars. The author reads her own audio book and you feel as if she is speaking directly to you. She is not at all like her public persona. She is brutally honest as she relates her journey from an abusive step-father and dysfunctional family to where she is today. This is one of the best memoirs I've ever read and Ms. Field wrote it without a ghost writer. Highly recommended by staff and patrons alike.
"The Shadows We Hide" by Allen Eskens is a sequel to his award winning debut "The Life We Bury" about college student now AP reporter Joe Talbot. Joe unravels secrets of his family's past as he investigates the murder of a man he presumes to be his father. You don't have to read the first book as there is enough detail to fill you in but if you love a fast paced (almost heart-pounding at times) mystery you'll want to read the first. The author is retired after practicing criminal law for 25 years and also has a degree in journalism. His characters ring true and you will be kept guessing until the very end.
"The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides is getting lots of positive feedback from patrons. Here's what Entertainment Weekly had to say: "An unforgettable―and Hollywood-bound―new thriller... A mix of Hitchcockian suspense, Agatha Christie plotting, and Greek tragedy."
Of course, the most popular book everywhere right now is "Where the Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens. This sounds fantastic for book clubs and sensitive readers alike. Ask to be put on hold as the list is long but definitely worth the wait according to everyone we know who has read it!
David Baldacci's Memory Man series is wonderful and getting better all the time. Amos Decker is the "memory man" who can't forget anything. It's an affliction that is more than just a photographic memory. Start at the beginning of the series with "Memory Man" and read them all as you will definitely want to get to know Amos. The fifth novel "Redemption" was just released and it's hard to put down. Baldacci's books are always entertaining and topical.
Harlan Coben's newest book "Run Away" is about a man searching for his daughter. I have read it but have to say I can't even remember it. But his books are always a fun diversion even if this one isn't his best.
